May 2026 Tax Due Dates for Tipped Employees

For individuals working in the service industry or earning regular tip income, tracking monthly totals is a crucial element of tax compliance. If you earned more than $20 in tips over the course of April, you are legally required to report that exact amount to your employer by May 11, 2026.

You can fulfill this reporting requirement by submitting IRS Form 4070. Alternatively, you may provide a written, signed statement detailing your name, address, Social Security number, your employer's name, the specific reporting period, and the total tips received during that time frame.

You will then be responsible for paying those uncollected taxes when filing your individual return.

Extensions and Exceptions

As a general rule, when a tax deadline lands on a weekend or a legal holiday, the due date automatically shifts to the following business day.
